Stephen Boyett
PARTNER
Stephen (Steve) Boyett is a California-based attorney with DCH Law LLP, whose practice focuses on a wide range of real property transactions nationwide.
Steve has extensive experience in legal matters attendant to the acquisition, development, construction, financing and sale of renewable energy projects, with a particular focus on development and interconnection site control matters specific to such projects. Steve regularly negotiates and drafts site control agreements (e.g., options, leases, PSAs, easement and right-of-way agreements, licenses, franchises, etc.), on behalf of both project developers and landowners, bringing up-to-date market knowledge to these transactions.
He has successfully secured site control rights for utility scale and C&I renewable energy generation and storage projects, often with complex and lengthy interconnection routes, situated on private, municipal and state-owned land. This experience makes him particularly adept at securing site control rights across from governmental, quasi-governmental and other highly regulated counterparties while maintaining the long-term financeability (on both debt and equity bases), operability and marketability of energy projects.
Additionally, Steve maintains a general transactional practice covering a range of matters, including retail, office and warehouse leasing, the purchase and sale of office, retail, multifamily, industrial and mixed-use projects, financing, zoning, land use and entitlement issues, and title insurance review and curative work. He also advises clients in corporate formation and governance best practices, compliance matters, and mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining DCH Law LLP full time, Steve was a Senior Attorney Editor for Thomson Reuters’ Practical Law offering, developing multi-jurisdictional real estate practice aids. He was the Leasing Committee lead, tasked with guiding the work of the committee in developing leasing guides and form agreements, as well as the What’s Market leasing editor, overseeing the publication of market guidance for attorneys negotiating commercial leases nationwide.
Prior to joining Thomson Reuters, Steve began his career with Foley & Lardner’s real estate and finance practice groups, as well as the sports and energy industry teams. Steve previously worked at Cornerstone Real Estate Funds (now Sentio Healthcare Properties owned by Kayne Anderson Real Estate Advisors, L.P.) and for Judge Joan Kessler of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, District I. Steve is licensed to practice in California and Wisconsin.
Steve and his husband Jon live and work on California’s Central Coast and spend as much of their free time hiking and exploring as possible.
